1 year later

It's November again ... I cannot believe it!
Well, I haven't written in a while but there are actually lots of news!

  • We had our first meeting with everyone interested! Yay, there are actually a few!
  • MANdre and I, Chiquita Chase, went to the EROC 2012 in Berlin. MANdre focused on organisational workshops and learnt lots of valuable info about founding a league. I focused on networking and how to become a good trainer! Thanks again to the Berlin Bombshells for hosting the EROC every year!
  • The city of Buxtehude knows about us now, unfortunately we're the surface destructors to them who need to be banned of any venue we might get hold of ..... at least we have a name for our first team.
  • We started training nonetheless! First training session started in May in Hinterdeich in the backyard of an apple farm with Betti and Paul. Great stuff, fun and soooo exciting to actually start. Plus we printed our first flyers and got a fanpage on FB.
  • Soon after that Nadine joined us and we started to train on the deck of a parkhouse in Stade. Pretty rough surface, a bit narrow, always car freaks who watch us but we do train every Tuesday! On weekends we go free skating. It's fun, everyone improves their skating skills and we're working together towards our goal to get a training venue and more skaters to join us! And I might say I am lucky to be part of a bunch of really lovely people!

Monday 5 December 2011

No news from the BSV so far ... we will have to start thinking of alternatives to get a training venue.
BUT Sue Aside and I will be going to EROC 2012 in Berlin to get the knowledge to kick start our league and make it the best league it can be!
We're very excited about this! Yay!

Second Thoughts

Na, so was gibt's auch.

Are sometimes pretty essential, like, that I already know people who said they will join the league, when it starts! Yay, but I just got the idea that it would be so much cooler to work towards the goal ... together!
Any help, ideas, suggestions, beers together will help:)
Shoot me an EMAIL!

First movement

I was thinking about starting a league before I moved to Buxtehude. Now I am here...3 Months later and nothing has happened. Not really.

I first got in contact with the nearest Roller Derby league the Hamburg Harbour Girls. Spiky, the league's co-founder has been a treasure box of knowledge about the German way of things and helped me remembering a lot of things I forgot.
I went to their last friendly bout which was the glorious final of a workshop day and got a boost of Derby Love.

Last week I have contacted a Figure Skating Club near by TuS Harsefeld and asked about the possibility to rent the venue for training purposes. No answer so far but their venue is an ice skating rink during the winter months...they might just be in hibernation.

I also contacted the local sports club BSV Buxtehude. Apart from the German Club system being exceptionally democratic and well organised this particular one is looking for 'new sports' to incorporate into their Club! PERFECT!
Roller Derby is one of the fastest growing sports at the moment, for females but a few males are quite alright ;) and I want to start a league!
So I contacted them and Jürgen, the one who's organising new clubs within the club called me merely 12 hours later! Wow, I think he is keen :)
So this week I met him and was able to skate a few demos for him to check weather my equipment leaves any marks on the sports court surface .... not really! Even though I prepared for the worst case scenario and was ready to tape or cover my pads with fabric and have the whole league skate with rubber toe stops. Not necessary.
Unfortunately the school administration has the last word wether we are allowed to skate in their sports halls or not .... waiting for response now.
